So we return to the scene of the crime. This is what I was going to cook the night I made our grill explode. *sigh* I put the grill on to heat and closed the door while I fannied about preparing stuff. Of course the high heat of the grill had the predictable effect of superheating the glass inside the oven door until it expanded to the point where it couldn’t expand any more. The resulting explosion of glass scared the crap out of me and ruined the chances of grilling the langoustines I’d bought for tea, so they were boiled instead. Tonight I gave it a second go. Grilled Cajun Chicken
After a pretty barren week of cooking I redeemed myself today by taking a second run at a Cajun chicken dish which didn’t go to plan the first time I tried it. Continue reading “Grilled Cajun Chicken”
Baked breakfast stack
In the interests of full disclosure I didn’t have this for breakfast. A disaster with the grill the day before meant I had to spend some time cleaning up broken glass from inside the oven and I didn’t fancy doing that before breakfast. So really this is a lunch stack but if I was doing it again it would definitely be for the most important meal of the day, which is nothing except what it deserves as the end result was almost as spectacular as the grill explosion the night before! Goulash
Another pig recipe! We had some diced pork in the fridge which was going to be for kebabs, but I fancied trying this instead. It’s kind of based on a paprika pork recipe I got from a book when I started cooking but I never really liked it. The book’s recipe only called for half an hour or so of cooking which meant the pork was tough and the whole dish was really bland. This is a jazzier version with softer, more tender pork from the longer cooking and a massive flavour boost from the chorizo. Continue reading “Goulash”
Egg with Anchovy Soldiers
Today I’m at home and feeling a bit under the weather, but also hungry. I didn’t feel like going to the shop which meant the only option was to hunt in the cupboards for something edible. Skipping past a packet of super noodles (green thai flavour) and the jars of pasta sauce (not worth opening for a light lunch) I eventually dug out some eggs and a tin of anchovies. 5 minutes, a hot pan of water and some toast later and lunch was done. I felt a lot better after eating it as well! Continue reading “Egg with Anchovy Soldiers”
