A while ago we were given a present of some venison lorne sausage. Normally I’d try to avoid the square sausage as an evil weegie creation that most people should avoid at all costs. Like Rangers fans. But as this was a gift I thought I’d give it a go and a bit of improvisation was in order. Continue reading “Improvised venison and hazelnut spaghetti”

Homemade tapenade on freshly baked bread
Here I go with another holiday inspired post! Don’t worry I’m sure I’ll get sick of these soon and return to normal service.
One of my favourite things that I brought back from Nice (part 2 of that report is coming soon by the way) was two jars of tapenade. Now I love anchovies, olives and capers and will happily take any opportunity to combine the three in some kind of food. Be that in pasta sauce or on top of pizza. Mushing them all up in a paste to spread on toast? That’s definitely a concept I can get into. Continue reading “Homemade tapenade on freshly baked bread”
Smoked mackerel and chilli fishcakes
Fish-cakes are a favourite in this house. Usually I just follow the recipe in Nick Nairn’s cook school book which produces excellent crisp on the outside, moist on the inside cakes. Chicken in parmesan and herb breadcrumbs
Here’s a quick post that’s a little bit more seasonal than the last one! Chicken breasts in some Italian influenced breadcrumbs. Continue reading “Chicken in parmesan and herb breadcrumbs”
Toad In The Hole
It’s time for a classic – Toad In The Hole. I haven’t made this for ages. No idea why as it’s all kinds of awesome. Massive yorkshire pudding with plump sausages and loads of gravy. Yum!
The Devenick Dairy were doing a deal on veal sausages at the farmers market recently so I thought they’d be a perfect match for some toad in the hole. Once defrosted it looked like there was a few more sausages in the pack than we initially thought but I cooked them all anyway and ate the rest after my run the next day. Gave me something to look forward to while I trudged up a big hill in Glen Tanar. Continue reading “Toad In The Hole”
