A chicken magically appeared in our fridge on Saturday which gave me the opportunity to try what Nick Nairn calls his perfect roast chicken dinner. A bold claim. Normally if I’m doing a roast I stick to pork and beef so it was good to try a decent sized bird for a change and see if I could avoid the common pitfalls of dried out meat and lack of flavour.

Cairn O Mohr – Autumn Oak
While we were in Pitlochry we visited a little whisky shop on the high street. If you happen to visit this shop DO NOT ask the guy with a beard if he’s got any good bargains! At least not if you want to leave quickly. Christ that guy can haver on.

A weekend at Loch Rannoch
To kick off my birthday week we headed over to Kinloch Rannoch for a few days amongst the lochs and hills of highland Perthshire. We were staying at the MacDonald Loch Rannoch Hotel, just outside the village and while the hotel was a little bit stuffy and dated it doesn’t matter when you have views like this from your bedroom window.
