My favourite whisky

I adore Balvenie and I especially adore the signature edition. Unfortunately this is the last large dram from the bottle I got on my birthday.

Distillery field trip

A few weeks ago I went on a trip organised by Deeside Drinks/Dunnottar Wines to tour two north-east whisky distilleries with the promise of all refreshments and food for the day thrown in. Sounded like a great excuse for a blogging field trip!

We were heading to two distilleries – Glenglassaugh in Portsoy in the morning and Glen Garioch in Oldmeldrum after lunch. I joined the rest of the 20 or so whisky fans on the bus from Banchory and settled in for the long haul up to Portsoy. Continue reading “Distillery field trip”

Miltonduff and Provenance Knockando Whisky

It’s been a while since I posted anything about booze on here. Partly because I don’t keep it around long enough to take pictures of it! But also because I don’t feel like I can talk about booze the same way I can talk about food. There are hundreds of fantastic beer, whisky and wine writers out there who can describe what they’re drinking with beautiful, descriptive prose. I’m not one of them.

However I can tell you what I like. Which might be enough for this blog. With that in mind I’d like to tell you about a couple of whiskys I’ve been supping over the last few weeks. Continue reading “Miltonduff and Provenance Knockando Whisky”

Low Fat Whisky Cream

One of the things my girlfriend has been missing the most since being diagnosed with gallstones is Baileys. Unfortunately as it’s made with cream it’s on the banned list for her. In the meantime she’s been making do with White Russians using semi-skimmed milk as a substitute, or at least she was until boxing day.

We were watching some TV after the second large feast in as many days but not really paying attention to what was happening on the programme. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed that they were talking about Irish whiskey cream and the presenters were going to have a go at making their own. It was at this point I started paying a little more attention. Continue reading “Low Fat Whisky Cream”

Getting into the Christmas spirits

I’ve had a quiet few days recovering from the office xmas lunch on Friday. It seems like everyone’s immune system got a right kicking from the festivities and now the whole team is sniffling away. So for medicinal reasons it’s time to break out the big guns.

The Balvenie is one of my favourite whiskies. I don’t know if it really does cure the common cold, but I feel better already and I’ve only had a (not so) wee dram.

It’s supposed to start snowing again in an hour or so. It seems to me that if Shackleton needed to take a few cases of whisky with him to the Antarctic then I’ll need to get stuck in to see me through this continuing apocalyptic cold snap.
